Since 1886, the National Academy of Sciences has honored more than 950 individuals in the physical, biological, and social sciences through its awards program.  


2024 Awards: Nomination Period Now Open

Nominations for the 2024 awards will be accepted through Monday, October 2, 2023. The Academy's Award Program recognizes outstanding contributions to science and encourages innovative research. Unless otherwise specified, preference will be given to early-career scientists and those whose work hasn’t been recognized by other large prizes or awards. Nominations must be submitted online here. We have updated our nomination policies, nominators may no longer nominate individuals from their home institution. The full nomination requirements can be found here

Looking Forward- Featured Recipient

Previous NAS award recipients continue to achieve outstanding advancements in their fields. 120 have received a National Medal of Science, 80 have received a Nobel Prize, and 51 have a Lasker Award. NAS Awards: Looking Forward checks back in with previous award recipients. Recipient of the 2013 Alexander Agassiz Medal, David M.
